In Old Spain, where remnants of the true Old World can still be found, there exist inns and restaurants that are named with great thought and care. In Segovia, near an ancient Roman aquaduct, there is an inn called, "El Meson", which basically means "The Inn". This is appropriate because it was really the first of its kind anywhere. The original name was "Thanks for the water, hooknoses, now get out", but the name was changed after the initial owner was crucified. Closer to home, near the headquarters of a veterinary pharmaceutical giant, is another Spanish inn that caters to the managers and wanna-be managers that work for that particular den of scoundrels. It's called, "El Culo Besado" out of respect for the fastest known way to become a manager in that hellish organization. Pigs at a trough are more pleasant in both demeanor and manners. No comic book artist could come up with more bizarre characters or faces. And yet, they're real. As the woman (played by Mia Farrow) in the 1960's horror film "Rosemary's Baby" exclaimed while she was being raped by Satan himself, "My God, this isn't a dream, this is really happening!" Yes, it's really happening folks. And there in that trough dine some of the people who are doing it to you. Buen provecho! |
